One of the best films of the year! A comforting thrill ride with very well written dialogue, ambient soundtrack, and beautiful cinematography! I have been fan of Edward Norton for a long time and for good reason he's incredible in every scene. This is one of the best performances of Alec Baldwin and Willem Defoe. I respect people with Tourette syndrome being that I have ASD So I feel I relate to some extent. Last thing is I really hope Motherless Brooklyn gets nominated or better win something.

This one was lacking everything except the props from it's era of time. Enjoy falling asleep or going to the bathroom or getting popcorn. It's ok. You won't miss anything. Film takes place in 1950's Brooklyn and the aesthetic of the film matches that quite nicely
Main story is a mystery surrounding the death of Lionel's friend and mentor
Norton gives a decent performance but it does feel a bit contrived
Norton plays Lionel, a man with Tourettes, OCD and most likely Aspergers
Norton's performance is inconsistent throughout the film and his ticks seem to come and go at convenient times
Works as a social commentary on public housing and racism
Solidly directed and written by Norton as the mystery unfolds well and the time period and tone is captured effectively
Movie is quite slow at times and you do feel the 2:20 run time
Score of the film is good and matches the film well
No bad performances in the film but some undeveloped characters that do get abandoned for new ones as the film proceeds
I like the classic noir feel to the film and enjoy the tactics that Lionel uses to get info
Like the relationship between Lionel and Laura although it could have been developed more
Overall solid film that never woes but is consistent.
